The Egypt Network for Integrated Development (ENID/El Nidaa) was conceived as a comprehensive five-year initiative that started in April 2012 as an output under a project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with Egypt’s Ministry of International Cooperation. The purpose of the initiative has been to address vital challenges to economic development, with a specific focus on poverty reduction and employment generation in Upper Egypt. ENID/El Nidaa program activities are integrated. They have focused on one typical and economically underdeveloped governorate in Upper Egypt, namely Qena, so as to increase the probability of success and the likelihood that pilot interventions could then be duplicated in other provinces.
